The patch: KB823980 (1.26 mb)

The removal tool: fixblast.exe (140 kb)

The" STOP COUNTDOWN COMMAND"

To stop the countdown and rebooting problem, click the START Button, then click RUN and type

shutdown -a

and hit ENTER on the keyboard. That command may allow your computer to remain connected long enough to get the patch and the removal tool. Note; there is a space before the (-) dash.

If the countdown box comes back on the screen,

click the START Button, click RUN and hit ENTER on the keyboard for it to stop the shutdown process.

When you get to the page, then click the word Download on the right side of the page and save the patch on your Desktop.

For Windows XP:

After downloading the patch, close all open windows, disconnect from the Internet and run the patch.
Reboot the computer.

After rebooting, get back online and return to this page, then download the removal tool to your desktop, disconnect from the Internet and close all open browsers.

IMPORTANT : Before running the removal tool for windows XP, read this page and perform the necessary steps for before and after using the removal tool.

Refer to the next paragraph for Windows 2000 instructions.

 

For Windows 2000 : Before you run the patch, read this paragraph.

HOW TO: Configure TCP/IP Filtering in Windows 2000, before running the patch.

Select "Network and Dial-up Connections" in the control panel.
Right-click the interface you use to access the Internet, and then click "Properties".
In the "Components checked are used by this connection" box, click "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)", and then click "Properties".
In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box, click "Advanced".
Click the "Options" tab.
Click "TCP/IP filtering", and then click "Properties".
Select the "Enable TCP/IP Filtering (All adapters)" check box.
There are three columns with the following labels:
TCP Ports
UDP Ports
IP Protocols
In each column, you must select the "Permit Only" option.
Click OK on all the boxes.
Restart the computer when prompted.
Then run the patch.
Reboot when prompted.

 

If you are running Windows XP, refer to this XP Page before using the virus removal tool.

 

 

Make sure you notice the name of the folder where the file is being saved. You need administrative rights to run this tool on Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
